Cancer Vaccine May Become a Reality in the Future
While several hypotheses and theories have been presented about the cancer vaccine in the past, it appears that it might become a reality in the near future. Potentially, these cancer vaccines will not only shrink the size of tumours, but will also prevent cancer from coming back once countered. It also boosts immunity by killing cancer cells. Dr. James Gulley, who leads a centre at the National Cancer Institute, United States, has stated that they are working on a product in this regard, and all efforts are being taken to ensure this vaccine can work, as per AP.
While the Provenge cancer vaccine has already been approved to treat prostate cancer, no similar approvals have been given for the treatment of lung, breast and other forms of cancer which threaten the lives of a large portion of cancer patients. The vaccine treatment for cancer is believed to have great potential, but major breakthroughs haven’t been made yet in this regard. Major players like Moderna, who had also created and manufactured its own Covid vaccine, are also actively working to bring their own cancer vaccine to the market.
