Ricky Ponting Reveals he was Offered to Become England’s Coach
Former Australian World Cup winning captain Ricky Ponting has revealed that he was offered the role of England’s Test coach even before the retired New Zealand legend Brendon McCullum got the job. He opened up about getting this offer in a conversation with Guerilla Cricket podcast and why he rejected it. He said, “I’m just not ready for a full-time international coaching job, where I am at in my life. Having travelled as much as I have, with young kids now, I just don’t want to be away as much as I was.”
He further added, “And even talking to Brendon, his family is only just arriving today. When you have got kids that are in school, moving them around, that’s not what I want to do.” Ricky Ponting currently coaches Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League, after having coached Mumbai Indians in the earlier season where he was part of the team that won the title. In his own career, Ricky Ponting boasts of two World Cup wins as the captain, and also arguably the best overall batting stats compared to all other Australian batsmen of his time.
