Apple likely to shift 18% of iPhone production to India
Apple reportedly has major investment plans in India in terms of iPhone production, as it is likely to shift its iPhone manufacturing in the country by 2025. This will be a massive jump from the current 7% and promises to bring major changes in global supply chains in India’s favour. This decision will boost India’s vision of replacing China in supply chains and has likely been influenced by Apple CEO Tim Cook’s recent visit to India, when he inaugurated two Apple stores in India – one in its financial capital Mumbai, and the other one in its national capital, Delhi.
Countries around the world have been directing their multinational organisations to move their operations out of China by providing incentives. China has dominated the global supply chains for several years after becoming a manufacturing hub, but the geopolitical tensions that have taken place in the post-pandemic era have prompted world economies to reduce their dependency on the Asian economic superpower. India, Vietnam, and the Philippines have consequently emerged as the top replacement options for the world for the manufacturing and supply of goods.
