Sports Minister Anurag Thakur to hold talks with wrestlers
Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur recently extended an invitation to all the protesting wrestlers to hold discussions with him on this matter. Thakur sent out this invitation via Twitter which reads, “The government is willing to have a discussion with the wrestlers on their issues. I have once again invited the wrestlers for the same.” The wrestlers, including Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and others, have accepted this invitation and are soon expected to have a meeting with Thakur, Republic reports.
This invitation by Sports Minister Anurag Thakur comes soon after Home Minister Amit Shah also had a brief discussion with the wrestlers where he promised them an unbiased probe on Wrestling Federation of India president Brij Bhushan Singh. He has been accused of sexual harassment on multiple counts, and the wrestlers have been unanimously demanding his resignation from his post. As per these allegations, Singh had harassed and demanded sexual favours from wrestlers. However, he has unequivocally maintained his claims of being innocent and had even stated in a public rally saying that he would “hang” himself if these allegations are proven to be true.
