PM Modi at FIPIC Summit: India proud to be your developmental partner
Major geopolitical in the Indo-Pacific region are underway as Papua New Guinea and other members greeted PM Modi at FIPIC Summit. After U.S. President Joe Biden backed out at the last minute, India has made sure to mark its presence in Papua New Guinea to increase its influence in the Indo-Pacific region by creating cooperation and multilateral ties with the island nations. The Indian PM called FIPIC members “developmental partners” and assured them that India would remain a reliable partner for them in times of need, citing how India provided them with vaccines and food grains during the turbulent pandemic period.
Without taking any names, India also mentioned China’s aggressive behaviour in this region, saying, “Those whom we considered our confidants, it was found that they did not stand by us in the time of need. In this time of difficulty, the old saying proved true: a friend in need is a friend indeed.” The remarks made by PM Modi at FIPIC Summit thus resonate with India’s intent of countering China’s diplomatic and economic influence in the region with a promise to become a voice for the global south at all international forums.
