Cillian Murphy reveals he was “desperate” to play ‘Oppenheimer’

Movie enthusiasts around the world are eagerly waiting for the celebrated Hollywood filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s upcoming drama Oppenheimer. The movie has a power-packed cast that includes Robert Downey Jr., Emily Blunt, and Matt Damon, to name a few. But prominent British-Irish actor Cillian Murphy has been in the spotlight for playing the titular lead role of scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer. In his recent interview with Associated Press, the actor confessed how badly he wanted to play this role.

Cillian told the press that he has always been open to star in a Christopher Nolan film, no matter how small the role is. He added, “But deep down, secretly, I was desperate to play a lead for him.” He recalled how excited he was after Nolan offered him to play the lead in this film and called the role a “huge responsibility” but felt “confident” to be working under Nolan. Oppenheimer is slated to be released on July 21 this year and will be distributed by Universal Pictures.
