Quad leaders to assemble in person at Sydney next month
The Quad has been proactively working to increase its influence in the Indo-Pacific region to counter the ever-growing Chinese aggression in the region. The leaders of the four Quad members – India, the United States of America, Japan, and Australia have conducted various online meetings over the years but only assembled twice in person, thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the White House has announced that the heads of all these countries will join each other under the same roof next month in Sydney, Australia.
This crucial meeting will be taking place on May 24 in Sydney, where various key agendas will be discussed. Some of the key issues include maritime security, climate change, cooperation in developing high-quality infrastructure, and other strategically important matters that concern the Indo-Pacific. As China increases its threats on a Lithium-rich Taiwan, the Quad leaders will also likely explore the different ways to counter Chinese aggression. Since China eyes domination over the Indian Ocean, South China Sea, and the economically important sea routes of Malaka Strait, the Quad will be looking to devise a strategy that can serve them in the longer run.
