Amritpal Singh locked up in isolation with tight security at Assam’s Dibrugarh jail
Amritpal Singh had been on the run for a brief while before being eventually arrested by the police. The pro-separatist Khalistani leader was taken into custody after he recently surrendered himself to the police. It has now been ascertained that he is being kept in complete isolation in Assam’s Dibrugarh jail, surrounded by security, as per a Republic report. He is also being carefully monitored by CCTV cameras around the clock to ensure his safety pending further investigation.
This major step has been taken in light of Khalistani supporters becoming active in the state of Punjab as well as in different parts of the world. The issuing of Amritpal’s arrest warrant itself sparked several protests, including the one where Indian High Commission in London was vandalised by Khalistanis. To keep further acts of aggression and violence under control, Indian security agencies have decided to keep ‘Waris Punjab De’ chief in Assam. The news of his surrender came just a few days after his wife, Kirandeep Kaur, was detained at Amritsar Airport. More details about his investigation are expected to be revealed soon.
