4 common commodities you must never carry to the airport

A lot of thought goes into packing your luggage, especially when travelling via aeroplane. Airport security is extremely strict, as they do not allow any object that can be potentially dangerous. Many people may have experienced confiscation of objects that are usually not considered to be harmful in any way but can cause security concerns that we may be unaware of. Here are a few common commodities that you must never carry to the airport, as stated by Lorie Dankers, TSA spokesperson of the Western U.S. region, in an interview with Reader’s Digest.  

Lighters / Matchboxes  

This may sound inconvenient to anyone who smokes, but packing lighters or matchboxes inside your luggage because of the obvious potential threat it poses to security. Packing them in your luggage on top of that may further cause unnecessary suspicion from authorities that can cause you to miss your flight and may even unintentionally start a flame that can ultimately become a fire.  

Vapes / E-Cigarettes  

It is a misconception among people that don’t travel frequently that vapes and E-Cigarettes are allowed at airports. This is because they contain lithium batteries, which are highly flammable in nature. Furthermore, should the battery cause fire, it can be easily extinguished in the aircraft cabin.  

High-proof alcohol  

While liquor is often carried around in luggage and even sold at airports, carrying drinks that have over 70% alcohol will be confiscated at the airport. Because of its increased alcohol content, the drink is far more flammable and can cause a major fire, especially when packed inside a suitcase.   

Cleanliness products  

For people who like to take cleanliness products with them everywhere they go, air travel may not be the best option. This is because they contain ammonia, which can potentially become explosive if mixed with other chemicals. You may buy these products after you land, but stuffing them inside your luggage is a no-go.
