3 AAP councillors join BJP in Chandigarh; Post Supreme court hearing
Three AAP councillors, Poonam Devi, Neha, Gurcharan Kala, joined the BJP late Sunday evening. These transitions were noticed post hearings in the recently conducted municipal corporation election in Chandigarh, Mayor. Manoj Sonkar. The speculated causes revolved around the allegations stating that the polls submitted on January 30th were Inorganic. These observations were noted after Delhi CM and Arvind Kejriwal claimed foul play in the election.
Significantly, the BJP secured a decisive victory in the Chandigarh mayoral elections, dealing a blow to the Congress-AAP coalition, which had raised concerns about ballot paper tampering by the presiding officer.
Earlier this month, the Supreme Court struck down the returning officer overseeing the mayoral polls. The court noted that it was evident he had tampered with the ballot papers, emphasizing the need for prosecution. The court labelled his actions as a severe affront to democracy, stating they amounted to “murder and mockery” of the electoral process, according to the news agency PTI.
The court also mandated the preservation of ballots and poll proceedings video, alongside summoning the returning officer for a personal appearance during the upcoming hearing scheduled for February 19th.
